Following Up From Last Month

Everything sounds cool in a vacuum. But I wanted to dig a little deeper on the "Just show up" part of last months post.

Sprinting and conditioning are hard as heck. I've just been adding these back in over the past 6 weeks. I do and have done a lot of lifting that's my safe zone. It's where I'm confident in what I can do; confident in my past. I'm never scared of or anxious to lift or to compete in it. But conditioning isn't it man. I'm a recovering lifetime chubby kid whose always had to make the most and dig deep for any sort of conditioning test. I've just always hated it to be completely honest. But I'm trying to remedy all that now.

Let's not start off making the classical mistake; the first move most people make when they start training is some big powerful gesture that also leaves them wrecked and overall decreases their odds of success.

Big bold action is only acutely bold. If you don't allow yourself room for recovery or growth or a pace that won't allow you to keep that effort up it won't lead anywhere.

So here's where I started. Very modest. 2 sessions aside from my regular program. The first session is just sprints. Little warmup and then 10 sprints as hard as I can possibly manage. The next session was 10 hard efforts on the assault bike. Maybe 20-30 seconds; a good interval of work.

The point I want to make is as opposed to surging behaviors that we talked about the key that makes this such a good starting point is this is just a plus. It's an effort in the right direction.

The cool thing I want to say about pluses; If you keep your focus in training or anything on beginning with effort and consistency with effort. You don't really have to worry so much about doing the right thing all the time, the right thing at the right time, or doing the right thing with enough effort all the time, being perfect all time, or being as intense as possible all the time. Not every action has to be maximized. What you're looking for is stringing together and building a rhythm of pluses.
